TWD Grandma's All Occasion Sugar Cookies

I love simple and delicious. To me, it is the best way to go, so when I saw that Ulrike from Kutchenlatein decided to host this weeek's challenge and chose Grandma's All-Occasion Sugar Cookies, I was really excited. First, I knew I could have a busy week and still have more than enough time to enjoy creating something simple and sweet in the kitchen. Second, it comes just in time for the holidays, and really, who does not remember baking these with their grandma? I actually used my grandma's trick, instead of using my cookie cutters when making these babies up, I used a jar lid.

I saved most of my dough for later to bake with the kids. For now, I made a few "adult" sugar cookies to enjoy exclusively with my hubby. No, nothing risque, just not Snowmen or Santas. Those will come later when I decorate with the kids. My hubby is not a big fan of sugar cookies. For him, they are too simple, too plain. Since he recently nursed me back to health, I wanted to bake something special for him, but how could I use what I had and still please him? Hhhmmm, well just like chili and cheese make everything taste better in the fast food world, chocolate does the same in the baking world, almost any world for that matter!

I adapted a recipe from Giada de Laurentiis that I found on the Food Network Homepage for her Chocolate Peppermint Cookies. Instead of using peppermint extract and cushed peppermints, I used mint extract and crushed Andes Chocolate Mints. I tend to have a little darker cookie edges than most. This time was no exception. I may try to go a minute lower on the baking time. Other than that, everything came out fine. Simple and easy just like sugar cookie baking should be. I can harldy wait to decorate some more with the kids. For now, my hubby and I will have chocolatey minty sweetness to enjoy all to ourselves. Let's just hope we do not leave behind any crumby evidence!

Have a good day and don't forget to stop by the other TWD members' blog sites to see what sweet sensations they created!

These were perfect, weren't they? I'll certainly be making these again as the kids have been leaving crumby evidence all over the place! ;) Your cookies look just delicious.

Sounds like it made some great cookies for your sweet hubby, and still will make the kids happy later. That's one successful cookie recipe, if you ask me.

Carolina,
Try a silpat (silicone sheet) on the cookie sheet next time. You'll get perfectly baked cookies every time!
