Post #97: Abuelita's Peanut Butter Smoothie

Yesterday, the kids came home from a long day at school to this...

I have long been a fan of Mexican hot chocolate, or as I knew it growing up, chocolate (imagine hearing the Spanish accent to this).  However, I really never knew how my grandma made it (for some reason we never called her Abuelita, even my great-grandparents were Mama y Papa).  When I moved to Houston, however, I learned a lot more about Tex-Mex food and influences that North Texas never taught me and my third generation Texan self never experienced. One was tortas. Another was Tres Leches. Yet another was how exactly  chocolate (again imagine with a Spanish accent) was made. My friend and long time baby sitter and second mom, Marina, makes her Mexican hot chocolate with Nestle's Abuelita  Authentic Mexican Drink tablets. Now, this is what I use. I mean how can you not? Just look at her sweet face.

My kids love chocolate in the mornings almost as much as I did growing up. They also love their after school snacks almost as much as I did.  Yesterday, we all loved this new drink I made using the recipe provided by Nestle on the Abuelita product.

Abuelita and Peanut Butter Smoothie

Estimated Time:
Prep Time - 5 min
Cook Time - 5 min
Cooling Time - 1 hrs refrigerating

Ingredients

3 cups whole milk
1 1/2 tablets (90 g each) NESTLÉ ABUELITA Chocolate
1/4 to 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
Ice cubes

Instructions

HEAT milk and Abuelita in medium saucepan over medium-high heat. Mix frequently until chocolate is melted. Remove from heat; refrigerate for 1 hour.

PLACE chocolate mixture and peanut butter in blender; cover. Blend for 1 minute. Serve over ice.

Serving Size: 4

This drink is amazing! If you love chocolate and peanut butter, you will love this drink. I will definitely make this again and again and again.

I topped the drinks off with a little cocoa powder that comes in this nifty container my MIL bought for me for Christmas. Next time, I will add some banana to it.

I use it to sprinkle on drinks and desserts. It is a must for my kitchen now.

I highly recommend you giving this recipe a try. I think it would taste great warm as a winter treat, too.  You can find Abuelita in the Hispanic or Latino food section in your grocery store. It is not expensive, and a little does go a long way.

See, I am not so North Texan anymore, but I am a little more Texan than Mexican. I mean what do you expect from a girl who was raised by a grandpa who told people he was a Texan first, then American?

My husband and I are definitely addicted to this marvelous drink and to those who love a great malt - you can add for another scrump-di-licious drink.
