Post #172: Out with the Old. In with the New.

There are so many new things I received over the holiday season, many from my wonderful hubby. Now, I know I blog about him A LOT, but I can not help myself. For five weeks at a time, we are with each other almost 24/7. Then, for five weeks at a time, we are apart. Absence does make the heart grow fonder and for us, togetherness does as well. I know, yuck, gag. But, there it is.

My husband somewhat enthusiastically encourages my cooking and baking hobby. I write somewhat, because he is constantly watching his weight and claims that my cooking does him in.  For me, my cooking is a testament of my love and he can always run these love calories off. Right?

Okay, so here is just a few of my new goodies.

From a few of my favorite thangs

I got my lovely new spice rack or wheel from Costco. I showed it to my hubby and told him how much I loved it. He told me to get it. To which I said, no. I mean I already had an old one at home. He grabbed it and put it in the cart and told me that I needed to start buying myself things. I reached in to put it back, but stopped when he said to consider it one of my Christmas presents. One of my Christmas presents? Well,  that changes everything. Now, buying it is no longer spitting in the face of frugality, but embracing the spirit of receiving. See how nice and shiny it is? It turns, too! See? Suhweet.

From a few of my favorite thangs

Okay, on to item #2.

From a few of my favorite thangs

My hubby also bought me this at World Market. It was pricey for such a dainty thang, but he felt I just had to have it. While we are not big salt users in mi familia, I do like to try new spices. When I saw this had Fleur de Sel, I was beaming. This is a pricey salt I would not normally buy myself, although it is highly praised in the culinary world. Now, I can bake more of Dorie's World Peace Cookies! Yum.

Now we move on to my last item for bids (haha), #3.

From a few of my favorite thangs

I must confess here and now that I love to go to thrift stores. I get goose pimply as soon as I walk in. Who am I kidding? As soon as I get into the parking lot. I get excited at the thought of finding that one good buy. The buy that can only happen because you were in the right place at the right time and someone did not know or care that what they donated was worth more than they thought. Well, this was that buy.

I  walked idly by the pots and pan section at my local NAM store. I figured it would be the same as always, slim pickings. I was pleasantly surprised. I picked this baby up as soon as I saw it. Could it be? Yes, it was. A Le Creuset 9" Cast Iron Pan.  Normally, this pan would be around $100 new, but some unsuspecting or unappreciative creature donated this virtually unblemished pan. The thrift store, NAM, sold it for a measly $7! My husband who knows well by now how expensive Le Crueset products are bragged about this find almost as much as me. Almost.

So there you have it, just a few of my favorite thangs. I will take pictures of the rest later and do another show and tell.

Thanks for putting up with me and my sweet nothings. I always get super cheesy when my hubby leaves to go back to work in Nigeria.

Y'all are good sports.

Speaking of sports, Go Cowboys!!!

That spice wheel is great. I love my spices. They are alphabetical in a drawer but I have so many that the overflow is in a cabinet.
