It is a crazier new world with two babies in the house, but it is so much fun, too! Now we are a family of seven (us and 5 kiddos). It can be hard work, but it really is worth it. I can not imagine my life without them.
I am so behind on everything! I am behind on grocery shopping. I am behind on decorating my house. I am behind on my "to-do" list, which drives me battier than any bat in a belfry! I am two books behind in one book club and one behind in the other. I am also behind in my TWD challenges. I really wanted to make the Swedish Visiting Cake, especially since it seemed so easy and is my kind of dry cake for coffee, and the marbled loaf from a few weeks back. I really intend to make those two really soon to give away to my awesome neighbors.
With all the craziness of the past days sprinkled with interrupted sleep, I really appreciated the simple recipe presented as this week's TWD challenge. It does not get any easier than biscuits! It really does not taste any better than Sweet Cream Biscuits! Sweet biscuits = Happy Southerners. Therefore, the lavishing of these baked babies with honey or preserves and sweet butter. We will not even start talking about topping them off with white gravy and crumbled sage or maple sausage. My mouth is watering.
When making biscuits, one of the most important ingredients next to the flour, is the baking powder. I found out that both my containers are expired! Yikes, how did I let this happen? Luckily for me, my biscuits rose a little.
In order to compensate for the lack of my powder's power, I cut my biscuits 1- inch thick, instead of Dorie's recommended 1/2- inch thick. Here is how the difference looked:
Since I am watching my caloric intake now (the party is over!), I tasted half a biscuit. These biscuits were pretty good. I think I will try them again with better baking powder and a little more sweet cream. I tasted a hint of the sweet tart doughy yumminess that is signature Dorie Greenspan. These babies were definitely easy to throw together (I made mine while getting the boys ready for school) and pantry friendly!
Thanks to Melissa of A Love at First Bite. This was a very easy recipe to get myself back into the Foodie Groove. Please visit her site. Her biscuits look amazing!
