My New Hot Steamy Love, My Rival

My Rival 6-Cup Rice Cooker that is.  I will  show you a picture of my new red hot companion!

From My Rival

I am sorry to disappoint those of you who thought you were going to read about a sordid, steamy, scandalous love tryst.  However, I will make up for it by sharing my enthusiasm over my new purchase.

I bought this budget- friendly baby from Target on Sunday. It is only $16.99 and a pretty nifty kitchen gadget to have on hand when you have let's say, karate and swim practice back to back on two nights of a school week and the pool and the dojo are nowhere near each other!  This is even better than my slow cooker when I am in a pinch.

My Rival Rice Cooker comes with a recipe book, measuring scoop, a ladle, and a steaming basket. I can make the rice, veggies, and meat in one container! Measure, add, dump, press button, and forget about it!  I did exactly this on Sunday when I made white rice with steamed leftover beef tips! Add some soy sauce to the meat and you get an automatic gravy drizzling onto your rice.  Tonight, my teenage daughter used it to make dinner for us. She used my rice recipe, which consists of rice cooked in homemade chicken broth, and grilled chicken in a cast iron pan. The rice and chicken were amazing together. She thought it was quick and easy, just as I did. Now, she can help me make dinner! Yay!

Really, for all of you who have one, shame on you for not telling me what I have been missing! I feel cheated. For those of you who do not have one, buy one. I can see nothing but advantages with this buy. First, it is affordable (well, mine was). Second, it is healthy to steam your food. Third, I mean everything cooked at once? Fourth, easy, easy, easy. Fifth, the possibilities are endless. Sixth, great way to reheat your leftover meat and add to freshly steamed rice! Seventh, rice is a staple and can be very affordable.  I am sure there are more advantages, but I am too tired to think anymore.

For my fellow TWD'ers, I will be posting my Chocolate Cream Tart late. I am going to make it tomorrow. The weather and my feeling under the weather kept me from making this chocolaty delight on time, but tomorrow I will bake it, even if it means using my rice cooker! Now wouldn't that be interesting?

I just bought a three tier rice-cooker vegetable steamer. I was able to steam 6 artichokes at once! It was awesome!

I love gadgets - my slow cooker is one of my favorites.
