Post #150: Out with the bad, In with the good...

From LittleEggMuffin

I never seem to have time lately to do the things I love to do. One thing is to blog. The other is to read blogs. For all my peeps out there who I read loyally, I am so sorry that I have dropped by in a while. I fully intend to soon! Right now, I am sneaking away to write about my renewed passion towards eating better. I started switching out foods from my pantry and joining the "calorie-counting" program (Lose It) on my iPhone mainly to give my hubby a "diet" partner. I really did not care if I lost weight or not, but my attitude was if I did cool, if not I am still at a healthy weight for my ideal range.  My hubby, however, is really on a quest to get back to his former glory, and I want to support him, like he would undoubtedly support me, if the scales were reversed.

From Our LittleMuffin

So now I am happy to say that we have both lost weight healthily and together.  Some people cringe at the thought of counting calories, but for us, it has been kind of fun.  We both are no strangers to fitness pursuits. I always watched what I ate BEFORE nursing. Then, I went back in time to my teenage years, when a kick butt metabolism was a thing we girls "duh" took for granted.  I mean, hello, I was supposed to eat 500 calories more a day!  Milkshake here I come.

Well, now my baby is off the booby, so I had to kiss the caloric honeymoon goodbye and get back into "eating healthily" practice.  It has been quite the challenge and success...so far.

Right now, we are turning to our favorite fitter versions of our favorite food fare daily. For breakfast, we always have a Faux Egg McMuffin. I make them with regular English muffins for now, but plan on switching to whole grain. Then, we each get a 1/4 cup of egg whites with 2-4 slices of grilled honey ham deli slices.  I toast the muffins with canola cooking spray and give the cooked eggs a final spritz of "I Can't Believe It Is Not Butter!" spray and a sprinkle of salt and pepper. I could add one slice of cheese and be okay, but we choose not to. I have added grated Parmesan which is a great cheese for dieters.

Some would think we would get bored with the same meal, but the body really does not care when it is hungry if the meal is creative or not! And believe me, we wake up hungry. Our breakfast is a mere 207-220, depending on how many slices of ham we use and what brand. Really we should eat 400 calories for breakfast, but we personally like to save the other calories for lunch or dinner. It helps to think of budgeting your calories like your money, maybe even better!

One last thing, I am so happy to have found these chips at my local Costco. I have yet to find them anywhere else, but they are great tasting and guilt-free! I just had to sing their praises to you all. They taste like Bugles, but you can have 33 chips and consume only 110 calories! I had to modify them somewhat in my program, because I split the portion.

Okay, enough. I gotta go, gotta go.  Ciao!

Good luck with the diet. I'm a calorie counter too. I really like the daily plate for figuring out calories. http://www.livestrong.com/thedailyplate/users/myplate/

Hurray that is the same thing I give my husband for breakfast every day of his life, LOL. I use a slice of canadian bacon and egg beaters and fat free cheese :)
