Post #169: Dorie's Sour Cream Pumpkin Pie and a Give

From dorie'spumpkin pie

Once again, I share with you a dessert I made on Thanksgiving. A dessert I am sure to make next week for Christmas. A dessert whose picture I also had taken on my now long lost camera. Another dessert whose picture I once again had to borrow courtesy of the internet.

I was on a roll for a while with all my baking. Some would call it passion. Others, pregnancy. I would say it is a combination of both. I have a sweet tooth and it gets sweeter with pregnancy! Even if my disposition does not.

I can not rave enough about Dorie's Sour Cream Pumpkin Pie. I made mine with fresh pumpkin leftover from the boys' Jack 0' Lanterns. The taste of this pie is fresh and creamy (from the sour cream). It is not too heavy, but not airy either. It has a great taste of rum that lingers simply on the palate, like eggnog. It is also spiced just right. Another successful Dorie recipe. However, I must confess, I did use a premium store bought pie crust. Flog me me later.

Here is Dorie's recipe from Dorie herself.

Now for the give!

From cleaving

Hachette Book Group was kind enough to send me AUDIO book copies of Cleaving by Julie Powell, author of Julie and Julia. I am currently listening to the audio book right now. The narration is from the author herself. She is at a different time and place in her life in this story. She tells it like it is, with no fluff. Once again, she merges her passion for food with her passion for life or specifically, her passion. She begins a journey not only to further explore the art of butchery, but her own life as well. As the publisher describes, "... how in breaking something down you can begin to make it whole again."

This is would be a great book to listen to while you are doing your holiday cooking or baking, something I was going to do today until our water heater decided to bust late last night!

I am giving away two copies. Here is what you have to do to enter the drawing:
  1. Just leave me a comment with a link to a must-try holiday recipe
  2. Email me your email address so that I can notify you if you won.  My address is carolinarlittle@gmail.com
Please pass this on if you wish.

I hope you all are having a great time with the holiday parties and preparation. I have mixed reviews. Some days are good and other days, well are like my water heating busting, not so good. I am all knotted up at seeing my dishes just sitting there sitting in their filth!

In any event, I have a good audio book to listen to and a new camera to test out (a gift from my awesome hubby). I just hope I can bake some goodies soon. I am craving all kinds of pies.

Coming soon... a day in the life of my baking. This is sure to entertain!

Yum! The pie looks so much richer and thicker than ordinary pumpkin pie.
